Enlarged photos
Below is an example of a photo that has been reduced and then enlarged again to its previous size. As you will see this leads to a substancial quality loss. For details on photo resizing, read
Resize Jpg.
1. The photo below has a width of 600 pixels and a height of 450 pixels (600 x 450). The file has a size of 73 kilobytes.

Our original.
2. After resizing it to a smaller size, we get the photo below which has a width of 300 pixels and a height of 225 pixels (300 x 225). The file has a size of 23 kilobytes.

Reduced to half size.
3. After resizing the smaller photo to a bigger size, we get the photo below which has a width of 600 pixels and a height of 450 pixels (600 x 450) again, like the 1st one.
But the details which have been lost while resizing to a smaller size did not "come back" by magic. These details are lost. Look at the call sign of the plane, HB-IXT, which is readable on the 1st photo but not on the reduced-then-enlarged one. Look at the edge of the wings where the reduced-then-enlarged one shows clear steps. The file has a size of 60 kilobytes.

The reduced photo enlarged again.
