My personal pros and cons list
Power Retouche plugins
are a collections of plugins allowing to perform various corrections and enhancements on digital photos.
 |
Plugins are a kind of additional tools that you can add to a basic package (software).
Photoshop plugins do not only work with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements,
but also with image editors like Paint Shop Pro, Photo Brush and many others.

|
Below the screen shot, I will tell you what I found to be convenient and what I was missing.
The pros:
| |
The Power Retouche Lens plugin is a barrel and pincushion correction tool.
Most similar tools perform a symmetrical correction on all four edges of a photo.
The Lens plugin is more flexible, allowing to perform asymmetrical corrections,
e.g. only correcting the vertical edges or only the horizontal edges
or using a different factor for the top edge and the bottom edge v. right and left edges.
It also crops the photo automatically if you select it to do so.
The Power Retouche radial density plugin is a tool to correct vignetting effects.
Its advantage is to allow to define a radius and the amount of darkening/lightening
for the center and for the edges. It applies the correction in a very smooth way
not creating visible circles like some tools do.
The Power Retouche sharpness plugin is a sharpening tool that does not create halos around shapes
like most built-in sharpening tools of many photo editors do.
The Power Retouche soft plugin is a softening tool that does not blur the photos.
With most photo editors the only (bad) alternative you have is a blurring tool
that renders photos like if being out of focus.
The Power Retouche Studio BW plugin is a tool to convert color photos into black and white photos.
It is able to emulate panchromatic films, orthochromatic films, various Kodak, Agfa and Ilford BW films.
You can also define the spectral sensitivity of a virtual film to your taste.
The Power Retouche toned photos plugin is a tool to convert color photos into several kinds of sepia photos.
Many photo editors come with built-in sepia converters, but most of them do not allow variations.
The toned photo plugin has presets for sepia, Van Dyck, Kallitype, Silver Gelatin and a few others.
You may also define your own pigmentation preference through red/green/blue cursors.
The Power Retouche golden section plugin is a tool
aiming to let you crop your photos obeying to the golden rules or golden proportions.
It is the only tool of this kind I have ever seen.
This is not an exhaustive list of Power Retouche plugins,
but rather a quick summary of functions I found most useful.
|
The cons:
| |
Exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, white balance are interdependent factors.
Thus I think that all these factors should be integrated into one single correction tool.
Power Retouche offers several plugins, one for each aspect mentioned above.
Personally I prefer the Color Washer
that integrates all these aspects into one plugin.
